My Heroes

Who has made a Difference in my life?
| A lot of people in the military can look back and remember
a few faces and names of individuals who gave them an extra push or made some
kind of difference in their careers. Since my military career is just
starting, I'm taking that extra step and posting the folks who have made a
significant difference in my life as I go. I may not have recent photos or a photo at
all, but these names are ones I will never forget! These individuals went a step
beyond their call of duty to make a difference in my life... but the funny thing
is, they didn't know it- they were just doing their job. Sometimes you have to
let these individuals know what kind of difference they have made. One of my
goals is to personally thank each and every individual who has made a difference
in my life. |
Did you realize you touched my life....?

MS2 Gina Peterson,
USNR Recruiter (2001)
Not just another recruiter... I
have a lot of respect for my recruiter. Not only did she care about me, she
cared about the welfare of my children. Since she had put in a lot of single
moms, she took extra care and dedication in making sure that joining the
Naval Reserve would benefit my children and I. Ultimately I wanted to go
Active Duty right off the bat, but MS2 Peterson helped me understand all
that was involved, leading me to make the best decision for my family. Thank
you MS2 for helping me make one of the biggest decisions in my life! I also
want to extend a huge thank you for emailing me the ad on the National Ad
Campaign for the Naval Reserve. You told me I was who they were looking for
and you were right!
CS2 Gina Peterson, USN (2005)
I met up with CS2 Gina Peterson 3 ½ years after it all
started... and she happened to be around when I found out I advanced to
E-5!! So we celebrated!!

Chief Carr,
RDC Great Lakes (2002) To me, Chief Carr wasn't just
another RDC. He wasn't just trying to get us in and get us out. He took the
time to explain information and gave speeches on the importance of looking
sharp and presenting yourself with proper military bearing. I used to listen
to him as if I was hearing this information for the very first time, from
someone who actually took the time to explain and from someone I could tell
had the same presentation he was teaching. I will never forget April 18,
2002 when I graduated. He came up to me, shook my hand and said, "Seamen
Recruit Dodd, you are going to make One Fine Sailor!" Now, you couldn't
imagine how that felt to hear that from a man I knew I would look up to for
the rest of my career. It was like my father telling me he was proud to be my dad. With those 11special words and
I made it my goal in life to live out every one them. From that moment on, I
was going to be "One Fine Sailor". Thank you Chief Carr for giving me those
words to live by. Thank you for your instruction and for being the best RDC
ever! |

Commanding
Officer LCDR Steve Arriola, NRC Tacoma (2003)
I have so much
respect for this man. He has not only been a great Commanding officer, but
he has acted like a true friend. He is now my former Commanding Officer of
NRC Tacoma, but he is still looking out for me. He is the first Commanding
Officer that I have met that has truly given me opportunities to show my
worth to the Navy. He has given me projects that he believed I could
accomplish and many that challenged me and motivated me to become a better
Sailor. When I felt like no one was in my corner, he was rooting for me all
along! I truly appreciate you, and what you have done to help my career get
started! Thank you! |
