1Navy's Sailor Spotlights for December 2006
HM3 Lydia EddingtonPSSR Jordan Archer  |  DEP Recruit Van Vu

Once again, YN2 Martin asked motivated sailors about life with the Navy.

Here’s what HM3 Eddington had to say…

HM3
Lydia Eddington

Active Duty Navy, USN

Home town: San Diego, CA
Currently Stationed:
Naval School of Health Sciences- San Diego

YN2: Where are you stationed now and with what Command/Unit?
HM3: Naval School of Health Sciences- San Diego

YN2: What do you do everyday in your rate?
HM3: My daily tasks include submitting the muster report, assigning tasks for the holding company personnel to complete including cleaning the school house, changing lights, sweeping the outer perimeter and various other tasks throughout the day. I also order supplies, request vehicles for the different classes, make changes to various phone lines, engrave nametags for incoming classes, route all chits for the Facilities staff and holding company and submit all outside work requests through DMLSS.

YN2: What motivated you to join the Navy?
HM3: My father was a Naval Officer and he loved everyday he was in so I decided to follow as much as I could at the time and become enlisted before I did anything else.

YN2: What goals do you hope to accomplish during your Navy career?
HM3: I would love to get as high up in the enlisted rank as I can while getting as much college as possible.

YN2: What have you learned in the Navy that you would have never learned anywhere else? Besides the actual Navy Job, is there something that stands out over everything you’ve learned so far?
HM3: I have learned so much about responsibility. If I had joined I would never have learned what it is like to have someone depend on you for everything. And you have to make the decisions regarding really important things.

YN2: Where are some of your favorite places you have been to?

HM3: I loved being stationed on the USS CHANCELLORSVILLE in Yokosuka,JP. We went to so many different ports in the Asia Pacific Islands and I was able to see all the different cultures. My favorite was Thailand because I was able to get my open water scuba diving certificate while we were there.

YN2: Where would you like to go next?
HM3: I would love to be able to go somewhere in Europe. I love to travel and anywhere in England, Italy or Spain would be so great.

YN2: Are you working on your education or volunteering in the community?

HM3: I just got to my new command and have not started working on my education as of yet. But am hoping to start classes in the next few months.

YN2: Name one person in the Navy who has made the most impact on you and why?

HM3: My previous Commanding Officer onboard the USS CHANCELLORSVILLE was the person that inspired me the most. He had to fight so hard to get us all the great ports that we got, even if they were working ports that did not matter to anyone. He motivated everyone to do their best and made the environment onboard very nice.

YN2: Life after Navy…. What are your future goals?
HM3: I'm hoping to be able to finish my college soon with a bachelors in biologic science. I'm hoping to become a Marine Biologist working somewhere on the west coast so I can stay close to my family.

YN2: Any ending comments?

HM3: Thank you so much for this opportunity.
