Marta Martin, Activated Reservist & Single Parent Mentor
to those considering enlisting through the NRAC Program & for those
who are Single Parents. -
YN2 Marta Martin, the creator and webmaster of
NavyGirl.com, is dedicated to helping those who are making the
decision to join the Naval Reserve and helping those who just joined
the Naval Reserve to receive as much information during this
exciting process. Joining the USNR through the NPSAC/NRAC program as
a single-mother of two and a student, she understands the difficult
balancing act between family, work, and achieving your goals. She
also maintains regular communication with Reservist and Active Duty
Sailors alike and always has her eyes and ears opened for the latest
happenings in the Navy, which makes her a true resource. If you've
got questions, she's got answers!
Rear Admiral Baker, USNR, Ret. Mentor
-
A truly inspiring individual, Rear Admiral Baker was commissioned as a
Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the Naval Reserve in 1980. Rear
Admiral Baker knows how to lead the way to a successful career in the Navy
and is willing to mentor those who are interested in becoming a Corpsman
and/or want to know more about serving with the Marines as a Corpsman. He
also has a wealth of knowledge concerning Medical Officer Programs and
Career Development opportunities for Corpsmen and Medical Officers.
But that’s not all! As a proponent of higher education, he is able to
provide guidance to those seeking a college education and enjoys helping
Sailors identify and utilize their skills, talents and abilities to achieve
career goals both in the Navy and in the civilian sectors.
ET2 Healis, USNR
NRAC Mentor
-
When climbing
a cliff those who follow the leader are often only a few feet behind, with
the leader experiencing each crack and ledge just minutes before those
behind him/her do. But, he/she is still able to relay those safe holds and
dangers to them so they may have a safer path. ET2 James Healis is ready
and willing to be this kind of leader for you; showing you the path to have
an exciting and rewarding career in the Naval Reserve. ET2 Healis is a
proven leader and motivator who can help and encourage those thinking about
enlisting and those who have just enlisted. Coming into the Navy through
the APG/NRAC program, he is a great resource to ask questions about
coursework, schools, and physical readiness standards. Also, he has
researched, and implemented, many different methods to loosing weight,
gaining strength, and building endurance, which helped him loose over 60
lbs. and reduced his body fat by over 20%!

Jose N. Lopez Mentor
to Any Sailor - I
am totally committed to the Navy and I love the Navy. I work hard
and I am not afraid to do anything. I seek to set a positive
example for peers, juniors and supervisors alike. I spent 5 years
on the USS Hopper DDG-70. Earned 2 NAM's. Qualified ESWS and
qualified and stood OOD watch in port. I love helping people and
especially sailors who want to learn. I don't hand them anything
on a platter though, they must want to seek the help and learn. I
can tell who wants to learn by just communicating with them and
talking and within minutes I have an idea. If they show me they
are hungry, I can go on forever helping and guiding sailors. When
I first came in the Navy I really did not have a strong mentor in
the SH rating. It took an SKC to inspire me and I will never
forget that first eval counseling session I had. His words were
truly inspiring and they stuck with me know to this date. His
style of leadership also drove me to excel. I use it to this day
and it works but I still seek to learn. From there I went on to be
the Divisional Training Petty Officer and motivated SH's to be
promoted tremendously. I went up all the way to LPO on that ship.
Many Junior Sailors would always want to come and work with us for
training or to make rate from deck department. All down to it, it
is my passion to help sailors succeed in the Navy.

Roshuni Samuel Mentor
to Any Sailor - Being a Protégé myself, I know the
importance of having a Mentor. It is always nice to be able to
talk/email someone who has been where you are and is willing to
help you. When I first came in I did not have a mentor and lost
out on a lot of opportunities. I didn't get my first mentor until
I had already been in for 10 years. Even though my mentor out
ranks me, I am almost 9 years older than him and have been in
about twice as long. Even with the differences we are still able
to learn and teach each other not only about our rate but about
the Navy as a whole. My goal is not to let someone go as long as
I did or decide to get out because they think no one cares or
understands what they are going through. I have been in the Navy
now for 14 years. During this time I have qualified ESWS and am
currently working on my EAWS.

(ver. 2/09)
Volunteer since 2003
Mentor
to Any Sailor - I enjoy helping junior Sailors new to
the Navy and getting them educated on collage and different
Officer Programs that are out there.
I am also
good at helping people with navy regulations and polices due to
the fact I work closely with the LN’s at my job. I
love what I do for the Navy and would not take anything back that
I have done. I take the utter most pride in what I do. I am the
kind of person that well goes out of his way to help a shipmate
out. I deal with everyone the same regardless of rank, race, or
age. A little about me… I joined the Navy May 20, 1999. I have
received one Joint Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Good
Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle, and
Expert Pistol. I am currently working on my Seabee Combat Warfare
pin and going up for board in August 2004. I advance to PO3 in
September 2002 and have completed various correspondences. My
first command I went to was SACUER, Belgium from Dec 99-Dec 03,
where I worked in the NATO secret registry as a document control
clerk. The second command I went to was NAS Jacksonville, Florida
at AIMD from Dec 03 to Aug 04, where I was Limited Duty, working
as an all around YN. My third command, which I am currently at,
is NMCB 133 out of Gulfport, MS, where I am the COYN with numerous
collateral duties. I have worked with security almost my entire
time in the Navy. I have dealt with matters ranging from
controlling documents to running a commands security program. I
am currently getting the office fully trained not only on YN
things but CTA/LN/RP things as well. Getting them ready for the
merger, if it happens and working with others to earn their
Warfare pin.
MM1(SW/SS) Reynaldo Holguin
Mentor to any Sailor - I enjoy helping young Sailors. As LPO,
I directed a path so my fellow Shipmates can follow and further
their careers. I have been in for 17 years, I am dual pin qualified
(Submarine and Surface Warfare). I have been on 3 different
Submarines, (USS Plunger, USS Louisville & USS Alaska), also on USS
Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and now I am stationed at Naval and Marine
Corps Reserve Center Minneapolis. I never had a mentor and I was
lost when I first joined, I enjoy being in the Navy, and with my
experience I know I can help young sailors today find their way.
I feel that everyone, old or new, to the
Navy should have someone whom they can give guidance in about
anything, either professional or civilian. That's why I have
like helping people who are willing to try new things-learn
computers or even share old sea stories. I would like to
motivate people in working as a team, vise alone. More things
can be accomplished if people had that "Team work attitude". We can
all learn and help each other, from our experiences, Navy work, or
civilian life.

I'm a very motivated sailor. I enjoy the
Navy very much. So it brings me great pleasure to be able to help
out my fellow shipmates. If I had a mentor when I joined the Navy
then I probably would have been more squared away. So my mission is
to help all of my shipmates around the world to become better
sailors. Feel free to email me about anything, professional or
personal. I will do my best to help you every step of the way.
