EMCS(SS) Randy Herrick

"I am a Senior Chief in the Navy Reserves attached to NR DESRON 14 drilling in Grand Rapids, MI. My primary duty is the Reserve Center Command Senior Chief. I served 10 years active duty as a Nuclear Electricians Mate on board submarines. During my career in the Navy I have had many mentors and sources of advice. As I have gotten more senior I have been a mentor to more Sailors. I believe everyone needs a person to go to for advice or help and I am willing to be that person.

“As you know that the Credit of the Service depends not only on dealing fairly with the men Employed in it, but on their belief that they are and will be fairly dealt with.” ~John Paul Jones

"Currently I am a Department Chief/ Department Head of Engineering CDS-28 Det A. I am at NRC Saginaw in Michigan. I have a heavy background in Boilers as I was a BT for the 11 years I was on Active duty. I believe that Mentorship is the key to the door leading to the future of the Navy. As a Chief I believe that it is paramount to lead from the front( This goes for the 1st class community also) and provide guidance to our junior sailors."

"Served onboard an LPD, two ADs, one AS, one CG, one FF, and one BB. Have extensive inrate MR experience, and out of rate experience in HT, DC, MM, BT rates, as well as most repair rates. Retired in 1998, worked for Alcoa and now work for a defense contractor writing US Navy technical manuals, primarily main propulsion and auxiliary systems, as well as engineering component manuals.  Hope to help any new sailor learn tips and skills that may not be taught in the fleet, and tell them how they can assist in fixing their fleet tech manuals."
