Here’s what DEP Recruit Vu had to say…

Currently Stationed:

SHIPPED EARLY- 21 Nov 2006
Graduates from RTC Jan 26, 2007

YN2: What job did you get? Any bonuses?
SR:  I will be going into the Submarine Electronic Computer Field and I will be receiving a $6,000 dollars signing bonus.

YN2:
What were you doing before you joined the Navy?
SR:  After high school, I was not sure what I wanted to do, so I started working.  I worked for over a year at a local restaurant called Bennigans, starting as a bus boy and worked up to be a Coordinator.

YN2: What motivated or influenced your decision to join the Navy?
SR:  I did not seriously consider joining the military until several recruiters who were eating at the Bennigans, asked me to stop by the office.  When I went home that night the more I researched about the Navy, the more interested I was.  Before I knew it, I was signed up and ready to go.

YN2: What goals do you hope to accomplish during your Navy career?

SR:  One of the main goals that I have is to travel the world.  In the Navy, I will take advantage of any and all opportunities I have to travel.  Another goal I want to start on is getting my college degree.  If I stay in the Navy I might even decide to become an officer.

YN2:
What have you learned so far in the Delayed Entry program (not necessarily Navy stuff) that you haven’t learned anywhere else?

SR:  If I could name the single most important thing that I’ve learned in the Delayed Entry program, it would be courage.  Standing up for your principles no matter the consequences is something that is not always easy to do, but it separates the strong of heart from the weak.

YN2: Where would you like the Navy to take you?

SR:  It has always been one of my dreams to travel the world.  In my civilian job I was making a considerable amount of money, but I would never have had the time to go traveling the world.  That is one of my main reasons for joining the navy.  I want to go to Egypt, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, France, Italy, England, and Spain and anywhere and everywhere there is to go.

YN2: What are your plans with college? Do you want to pursue college during your career or after?
SR:  After high school, one of my main reasons for not going to college is the money.  I did not take my high school education seriously, so I did not have any scholarships when I graduated.  I would have had to work and take out loans to go to college.  In the Navy, my education would be paid for and I can get valuable work experience.

YN2: If your recruiter been supportive in your goals, please let us know.
SR:  My recruiter is YN2 Martin and I could not ask for someone more supportive.  I wanted to get my paper work done as quick as possible, so she worked on it not only at the office, but also on her time off at home.  She trains alongside not only me but other recruiter’s Deppers.  If I have a question (which I often do), she is only a phone call away.
